Flips working now :D
In the version I'm going to release today, you will only be able to flip in one direction (roll-flip). Do you care about setting the flip direction? If yes, I'll add an option for the flip direction in future versions. Also, the German config screen is English now.

Everything uploaded.
If you want, you can get the version with flips at http://lbpclabs.com/autoflight#download!

And here comes another update. This one is more important, though ;)
In previous versions if you were not connected to the AR.AR.Drone and clicked "connect", you had to restart AutoFlight before trying to connect again. Now you don't have to. But what's more important is that it will now automatically try to reconnect to the AR.AR.Drone if the WiFi connection is lost.

Fab keep up your work!!

So whats the plan with the arduino stuff I see on the screen and what not?

Why don't you share and outline your ambitions and plans for your program here too?

Karl

I'll just have to document the Arduino stuff and make an API so it can be used. I have experimented a bit with a Pro Micro (from SparkFun) and 4 ultrasonic sensors. With this I was able to set a "security distance" to walls the AR.Drone would try to keep. I have been pretty busy fixing important issues, but I think now I'll be able to focus more on Arduino now.
So some of my plans are:
  • Document the Arduino stuff and make it usable (2 weeks - 1 month)
  • Mac compatibility!! (I don't have a Mac for testing and Java crashes in VirtualBox, so I don't know when this will be ready)
  • Warning when WiFi signal is weak
  • Improve the 3D map view, the current version sucks (2 weeks - 1 month)
  • A graphical path designer (3 weeks - 2 months)
  • Automatic "return to home" function :) (I don't think this is very important so I'll do it when I have some time)
  • Save whole flights with video frames and sensor data (1 month - 3 months)
  • Map the camera images to the "walls" in the 3D map view (I don't know how long this will take as I have no previous experience in image processing and it doesn't look easy to implement...)
  • What about a graphical programming thing as an alternative to Python scripting?
  • If my program gets really successful, implementing an "AR.AR.Drone Academy"-like sharing function where you can upload flights, Python scripts and movements/paths designed with the path designer would be really nice, too!
I know, very ambitious ;)
Also, do you think JIRA for project/issue tracking would be worth having?

EDIT: Added things I forgot

Hi,
When you choose your joystick and click "OK", what happens? Does no window show at all or does it simply not recognize the controls? Also, as I changed some controller configuration stuff in version dev-57b you can try to delete the "autoflight.properties" file in AutoFlight's folder, if there is such file.

when i choose my joystick and click ok, the window close and nothing happend...

in the previous version (dev-57) i can configure my buttons... and in this version i have a autoflight.properties file...

in version dev-57b and dev-58 there's no properties file....

is it possible to control the AR.Drone with my keyboard?

and where is the flip-function?

Hi,
what operating system are you using?
And yes, you can control the AR.Drone with the keyboard. See http://www.lbpclabs.com/autoflight-gettingstarted for more information. I have not added flips to that list now, so here's the flip command for keyboard: CTRL+F.
It's not very intuitive to use the keyboard, and I hope I can find the issue soon so you can use your joystick.
Also, does the path to AutoFlight contain spaces? (Spaces in paths are evil)
Thanks!

OK, bug fixed. Get the newest version on the website (http://lbpclabs.com/autoflight.html)
Also, small screens of only 1024x600 pixel are now supported.

Hi,

I'm very surprised to your works, congratulations !
I have bought the same gamepad you have in the video, but I would like to know what kind of program are you using to your gamepad.
I test MotioninJoy unsuccessfully and analogs sticks doesn't work.

Thank you and good luck for your project.

Oh and sorry, my english is terribly average :?

Hi,
thanks!
And I am not using any extra software. Have you tried pressing the "analog" button on your gamepad? Also, in the latest version you do not have to use analog controls. If you click on the "STK|BTN" button when configuring the controls you have the possibility to set two (digital) buttons instead of one analog stick.
I hope you can get it to work!
