AR Drone 2.0 Charger Flashing Red??

Unread post by BigRed » 06 Jun 2012, 01:18

Can someone give me any advice as to why this is happening?

I was charging a 1300mAh batter from Global AR Drone Warehouse on Ebay. I was using the adaptor that I purchased from them and my charger that came with my drone started flashing red after about an hour.

Is my charger broken? Was it the battery?

Any help is appreciated and thanks :)

Mine does the same thing at times - flashes green then red. I've no idea what it indicates and wondered if anyone has an explanation.

If it flashes red it is not charging. I usually take it out of the outlet then put it in and jiggle it around till it turns red again

My guess is that it is balancing when red charging when green.

This is from parrot

Red flashing means one or more cells is not charging or cannot be cherged or balanced (possibly bad connection)

Flashing red/green means the battery is being conditioned (whatever the hell that means)

Red is charging normally

Green is charged

I think this is most prevalent with new batteries i.e. they are imbalanced from the factory. You have to keep trying but it should eventually charge properly.

My battery & charger were flaky for a while but eventually settled down and work OK.

From other forums, I have found that inserting the charger "Up-side-Down" into the wall corrects all charging issues! The charger is not a Polarized plug, and most people insert the unit with the light on the top (so the weight of the unit is hanging down). Just reverse it so the light is on the bottom, and this should correct all your charging issues! (Worked fine for me!).

I have no idea why Parrot decided to contract the Chinese to manufacture a Polarized charger with non-polarized prongs! Quite stupid from an engineering viewpoint. Maybe to save a dime or two. Remember, this is a French company, and Europe has 220v, so they probably have no idea what Polarization in North America is all about (Fire Safety!).

Hope this helps!

Michael
