Probably to do with updating firmware or a version.txt file problem.

Folks check out this thread by ARTommy on connection issues: http://www.ardrone-flyers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=4427

If your not seeing a WiFi SSID at all when you turn on your drone does any of the lights turn green? Does the bottom LED underneath turn green?

Sounds like your maindboard is dead. But I could be wrong.

Try a reset using the button in the battery tray while it's plugged in similar to doing a rest on a router.

What happens when you do the reset? You have to hold it in for 2 seconds while its on and the LED's will turn red and flash as it resets.

I think you need to check all your connections under the bottom plate.

make sure it's not pared to a certain transmitter Ipad Phone or whatever, did you but it new? or used it might be paired to another transmitter!

If you can not see the wifi at all and you tested that with other devices chances are good that it is really bricked. Even if the AR.Drone would be paired to certain device you can see the wifi network and the (self assigned ip address).

As far as I can say the only options are: send it to parrot / replace the mainboard
